If you are deciding what to pack for a ski trip, start with more than a jacket and ski pants. There is the outfit for the mountain, the boots you change into afterward, the sweater for dinner, and the workout clothes that somehow end up being the most useful things in the suitcase. The easiest way to pack is to think in complete outfits rather than a pile of winter clothes.
This edit starts with proper ski layers and adds the pieces for walking around town, a casual après-ski drink, dinner and the hotel gym. A pale jacket, warm neutrals and a little lavender keep the mountain outfit pretty, while black, ivory and grey make the off-mountain pieces easy to repeat. You do not need a new outfit for every evening. You need the right shoes, warm layers and a few things that work together.

What to Pack for a Ski Trip: Start With Five Complete Outfits
On the slopes: merino base-layer top and bottom, ski socks, ski jacket and pants, gloves, helmet, goggles and properly fitted ski boots. Add a midlayer if the weather calls for one. Your workout leggings and everyday coat are not a substitute for the ski layers.
Walking around town: your warm jacket, a sweater or half-zip, jeans, winter boots, a beanie and a small bag. Choose boots for the actual walk, not just the restaurant photo.
Après-ski: a fresh sweater or sweatshirt, jeans, warm socks and winter boots. Keep the jacket nearby. If après is outdoors, dress for being outside rather than for a heated lounge.
Dinner: the grey quarter-zip or an ivory knit, straight-leg jeans, a black shoulder bag and winter boots for the journey. If the restaurant is dressier, bring a separate indoor shoe and change once you arrive. A fashion boot or heel is not a snow boot.
Hotel workout: a bra tank, leggings, training sneakers and socks, with a half-zip over the top for the walk through the hotel. Add a swimsuit and pool sandals only if your hotel has a pool or spa you plan to use.
The North Face ThermoBall Snow Triclimate Jacket

The Glacier and Pearl Stone combination gives this ski jacket a soft, light look without turning the whole packing list into an all-white wardrobe. The Triclimate design pairs an outer ski jacket with an inner layer, which is useful when you want more than one way to wear the pieces. Build the rest of the slope outfit around this jacket, then keep it available for cold walks in town. Check the current fit, layering room and weather forecast before choosing your size.

Burton Reserve GORE-TEX 2L Ski Pants

Proper ski pants belong in the suitcase even when the rest of your wardrobe is mostly cashmere and denim. These Burton Reserve GORE-TEX 2L pants give the ski outfit its technical outer layer. Wear them with the merino bottom below rather than trying to fit thick everyday trousers underneath. Choose a color that works with the jacket, and check the size guide carefully so you have room to move, sit and bend.
Smartwool Classic Thermal Merino Base Layer Crew

A merino crew is the quiet workhorse of the mountain outfit. The Almond Donegal color is easy with the pale jacket, and the long-sleeve shape sits underneath your other layers. Pack enough clean base layers for the length of the trip and the laundry options you actually have. Keep the cashmere sweater for town and dinner rather than treating it as your main ski base layer.
Smartwool Classic Thermal Merino Base Layer Bottom

The matching black merino bottom completes the first layer of the ski outfit. It is a separate packing item from the leggings you wear to the gym. Try your layers together before you travel, including your ski socks and boots, so you are not sorting out bunching fabric on the first morning. Follow the garment care instructions when washing and drying your base layers.
Darn Tough Function X Ski Socks

Ski socks are easy to forget and difficult to replace with the random socks already in your suitcase. Pack a clean pair for each ski day, or a realistic rotation if you can wash them. The Function X pair is a dedicated ski-sock option. Bring separate everyday socks for dinner and town so your ski socks can dry and your off-mountain boots have the right fit.
Hestra Heli Ski Female Five-Finger Gloves

The black and off-white Hestra gloves work with the lighter ski palette and finish the slope outfit. Do not read the ski name as a promise that every glove is waterproof: this particular model is not described as waterproof on the product page. If wet conditions are likely, choose your hand protection accordingly. Check your hand measurement against the size guide, and pack a separate lighter pair of gloves for town if you have them.
Smith Liberty Mips Helmet in Lavender

A lavender helmet is a small color moment that looks good with a pale ski jacket. The Smith Liberty Mips shown here is the matte light lavender option. Choose a helmet by fit first, then color. Check the manufacturer sizing and compatibility guidance, and try it with the goggles you will wear. A borrowed helmet that happens to match is not the same as one that fits properly.
Smith Squad S Goggles With Violet Mirror Lens

The black frame and violet mirror lens tie in with the lavender helmet without making the whole outfit purple. The Squad S is the smaller-fit option in this edit. Lens choice depends on the conditions, so read the current lens information rather than choosing from the photo alone. Pack the protective case or bag and keep the goggles separate from anything that could scratch the lens.
Ski Boots: Fit Them Before You Pack
Ski boots are the part of this list that should not be bought only because they look good with the outfit. If you own boots, pack the pair that has already been fitted for you. If you are renting, arrange the rental and fitting rather than adding an unfamiliar pair at the last minute. A boot fitter can help with the fit and the right setup. Town boots, even very warm ones, do not replace ski boots.

Dakine Boot Backpack 50L

A separate boot bag keeps the ski pieces together instead of letting them take over your clothing suitcase. The White Coated Dakine Boot Backpack 50L works with the light palette and is a practical option for organizing the trip. Check its measurements against your airline baggage rules and your own equipment before deciding whether it will travel as checked baggage. Keep the small things you need on arrival somewhere you can find them.
Smartwool Thermal Merino Neck Gaiter

A black neck gaiter is one of the smaller pieces that makes the slope outfit feel complete. It takes up little room and is easy to keep with your gloves and goggles so it does not disappear at the bottom of the suitcase. Check how it sits with your jacket collar and helmet before leaving. For town, swap it for a scarf if that feels more like your usual style.
Smartwool Cable Knit Colorblock Pom Beanie

The Mink colorblock beanie adds a soft pink and brown note to the off-mountain outfit. It is for walking around town or heading out after skiing, not for wearing underneath a helmet without checking the helmet maker’s guidance. Pack it near your winter boots so the town outfit has both ends covered. A pretty sweater alone does not finish an outdoor winter outfit.

Sorel Tivoli V Tall Waterproof Boots

These are the change-into boots in the packing list: the pair for town after your ski boots come off. The Black and Natural color works with jeans, the ivory half-zip and the grey sweater. The tall Tivoli V is described as waterproof on the product page, but waterproof does not mean slip-proof on ice. Check the fit with the socks you plan to wear, and keep your route and the conditions in mind.
Varley Hawley Half-Zip Sweat in Ivory Marl

The Ivory Marl Hawley is the easy piece for travel day, breakfast and a casual après-ski plan. Wear it with jeans and the Sorel boots for town, or over your workout clothes for the hotel. It gives the packing list a lighter neutral without needing another full outfit. Keep a warm outer layer over it when you go outside; a sweatshirt is not a ski shell.
Quince Luxe Baby Cashmere Quarter-Zip Sweater
A grey cashmere quarter-zip makes the dinner outfit simple: sweater, straight-leg jeans, black bag and the right shoes for getting there. The current color on this product page is Heather Pewter. Wear it zipped higher for a clean neckline or slightly open when you are indoors. It is an off-mountain knit in this edit. Fold it into the same neutral wardrobe as the ivory half-zip rather than packing several sweaters that only work with one outfit.
AGOLDE 90s Pinch Waist Jeans in Marshmallow
The Marshmallow straight-leg jeans bring a light neutral into the town and dinner outfits. Wear them with the grey sweater or ivory half-zip and your winter boots. Save this pair for dry conditions and indoor plans if snowy, slushy streets will make pale denim impractical. The current product page advises sizing down, so check its fit information instead of assuming your usual denim size will be right. A dark pair you already own is worth packing as the everyday backup.
Quince Penelope Small Shoulder Bag in Black

A small black shoulder bag keeps the dinner outfit finished without adding another large tote to the suitcase. The Penelope Small Shoulder Bag has a simple shape that works with the grey sweater and light jeans. Keep the ski equipment in the boot bag and use this for the off-mountain essentials. Check what you need to carry before choosing a small bag, especially if you will be out for the whole afternoon.
Alo Airbrush Real Bra Tank in Black

A black bra tank gives you a separate gym outfit without needing to pack a sports bra and top for every session. Wear it with the matching leggings and your own training sneakers. Add the Varley half-zip for breakfast or the walk back to your room. This is for the hotel workout portion of the trip, not a replacement for the merino top in the ski outfit.
Alo 7/8 High-Waist Airbrush Leggings in Black

The black Airbrush leggings complete the workout outfit and can double as a comfortable hotel layer. Pack your training sneakers and regular athletic socks with them so the outfit is actually usable when you arrive. Do not leave the shoes out of the packing plan. If you want to travel in leggings, keep a clean pair or a separate outfit for the gym rather than relying on the same clothes for everything.
La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-In Milk Sunscreen SPF 60

Sunscreen belongs in the ski-trip beauty bag as well as the beach bag. Follow the product label for application and reapplication, and pack the size that works with your travel plans. Add lip balm, moisturizer, your usual cleanser and any prescriptions or daily essentials. Keep a small version accessible rather than packing every toiletry where you cannot reach it until the end of the day.

The Full Ski Trip Packing Checklist
Ski days: ski jacket, ski pants, base-layer tops and bottoms, ski socks, gloves, helmet, goggles, neck gaiter, fitted ski boots or confirmed rentals, and a midlayer suited to the forecast. Add your ski pass details and equipment arrangements.
Town and après-ski: waterproof winter boots, everyday socks, beanie, scarf, warm jacket, half-zip, jeans and small bag. Pack a second pair of trousers if the trip is long or you expect wet streets.
Dinner: one or two knits, jeans or another pair of trousers, bag, jewelry and an indoor shoe if your plans call for one. Plan how you will get from the hotel to dinner before deciding which shoes to wear outside.
Workout and hotel: bra tank, leggings, training sneakers, athletic socks, sleepwear, underwear and a comfortable hotel outfit. Add a swimsuit and pool sandals for a pool or spa plan.
Beauty and travel: sunscreen, lip balm, moisturizer, cleanser, toiletries, prescriptions, chargers, travel documents, sunglasses and a laundry bag. Check cabin liquid rules and baggage allowances before closing the suitcase.
How to Make the Packing List Feel Like Your Own Wardrobe
Keep the technical pieces for skiing and let the town pieces look like you. A neutral sweater, a good pair of jeans and a black bag do most of the work after the mountain. Repeat them, change the knit, and save suitcase space for the boots and layers that matter. You can have a pretty ski-trip wardrobe without pretending every piece is made for skiing.
Before you leave, lay out each outfit with its shoes, socks and outer layer. That is the quickest way to catch the missing pieces: a dinner look with no walkable shoes, a workout outfit with no sneakers, or a ski jacket with no base layers. Check the current product details and available sizes before shopping. Then check the weather and adjust the packing list for the trip you are actually taking.
