A day in Santa Monica is one of my favorite resets: sushi lunch, then a long wander down Montana Avenue. We had lunch at The Brothers Sushi on Montana, a small neighborhood spot that takes its fish seriously, and it made the perfect start to a shopping day. Here is what we ordered, what to wear, and how to plan it.
Lunch at The Brothers Sushi
The Brothers Sushi is a cozy spot on Montana Avenue. We started with the avocado toast bites, which are nothing like the brunch kind: crisp rice, avocado, and beautiful little toppings.
The miso black cod is the dish to get: rich, caramelized, and gone in minutes.
Dessert at Brothers
For dessert, the taiyaki with matcha ice cream, warm and crisp against the cold matcha.
And if you are celebrating, they do a birthday cheesecake plate with a candle.
What to Wear for a Santa Monica Shopping Day
Montana Avenue calls for something relaxed but put together: great denim, an easy half-zip, sneakers you can walk in for hours, and a bag that goes hands-free.
