My favorite kind of Saturday is an active one: tennis in the morning, a long walk in the afternoon, and then getting dressed up for something sweet at night. Our latest stop was dessert at the Polo Lounge at The Beverly Hills Hotel, and the soufflé alone is worth planning a Saturday around. Here is how the day goes and what to wear.

Saturday Morning: Tennis and Long Walks

Mornings are for the tennis court, and afternoons for a long walk through the neighborhood before getting changed for the evening. The Margaux The Demi flats in black nappa are the shoes for it: the classic black ballet flat, handmade and walkable for miles, and polished enough to go straight to a late lunch. buy it here.

The Polo Lounge is the famous restaurant inside The Beverly Hills Hotel, with the candy-striped ceiling and old-Hollywood feel. We ordered cappuccinos, which come with the hotel’s name on top.

And then the chocolate soufflé, which takes about 20 minutes to bake, so order it early and let the evening slow down.

What to Wear for a Saturday Out

For dessert at the Polo Lounge, dress up a little: a black dress and a black heel.

The Norma Kamali Diana gown in black is the one-shoulder ruched dress that works for every dressy night: soft, flattering, and it packs without wrinkling. buy it here.

The Sam Edelman Hazel pumps in black leather are the classic pointed-toe stiletto, about four inches and endlessly wearable. buy it here.

For the bag, the black cuff bag is the evening shape of the season, and the satin mini bag is the softer option. On shoes, the Tibi Christopher heel is a low, strappy answer to a dress code, and the croc slingback adds texture. buy it here for the cuff bag.

For a smaller bag, the gold chainmail mini bag is the playful option, and the dark sapphire satin clutch is the minimal one. A black and ecru silk scarf finishes the neckline, and the charcoal cashmere fringed scarf doubles as a wrap when the evening cools. On shoes, the black satin slingback is the walkable mid-heel.

More layers for a Saturday out: the Tibi silk bias dress in black is the column dress to build on, and the Staud silk jacket is the easy black layer over it.

Two more pieces that earn a place in the Saturday lineup: the Anine Bing Bar silk skirt in black is the slip skirt that dresses up with a heel for dinner at the Polo Lounge or down with a flat for lunch, and the Anine Bing Hugh jean in dark indigo is the wide-leg pair that works for the afternoon walk and still looks right at dinner with a heel.

A Silk Blouse for a Saturday Out

For a polished lunch, a silk blouse dresses up simple trousers. The Ruti Almost A Tee silk blouse in Cloud is a soft, light option.

Planning Your Visit

The Polo Lounge is at The Beverly Hills Hotel, 9641 Sunset Boulevard. Reservations are essential on weekends, and if you are ordering the soufflé, ask for it when you sit down.
