A reversible coat gives you two different ways to wear the same winter layer. The original Velvet faux sherpa coat in this post is an older style. For a similar reversible look in real shearling, the Ulla Johnson Nisha coat in Noir pairs cognac leather with black shearling. It is a different material and a shorter shape, rather than an exact replacement for the old faux sherpa coat.

The Nisha has a wide shawl collar, cuffed sleeves and double-breasted buttons. It falls just below the waist, which makes it a good shape with high-rise jeans or tailored trousers. Turn the coat around when you want the shearling side to change the texture of the outfit.

I like the contrast of the warm brown leather and black collar over a simple cream sweater. Keep the rest quiet with straight-leg denim and flat boots, or wear it over a black knit dress for dinner. The collar is the detail that gives the coat its shape, so a fine-knit layer underneath will keep the outfit from feeling bulky.

Real shearling is different from faux sherpa

This is not the faux sherpa coat from the original post. Ulla Johnson lists the Nisha as shearling with a leather composition and professional dry-clean care. Follow the brand’s care instructions rather than washing it at home.

The Nisha reversible shearling coat is a similar-style option for the two-sided look, with leather and shearling instead of faux fleece.
